Is the Siberian the Right Dog for you?

Siberians were bred for thousands of years by the native Siberian Indians to be running dogs and require fencing and supervised confinements to prevent them from wondering. In the company of more than one other canine they delight in nocturnal chorus like their cousin the wolf.

The Siberian is a fun loving and gregarious dog which prefers the company of people and other dogs, and may become destructive if left alone or bored. Unless properly trained, they may enjoy the chase given by small animals including cats, and have a strong instinct to capture birds and rodents.

Siberians are great with children, robust and hearty, with a joy for life. Very young children and toddlers should be supervised with less experienced dogs, as their exuberence may overwhelm the child in the beginning.

The average size of males is 21 to 23.5 inches at the withers, and can weigh from 45 to 60 pounds. The female can have a height that averages 20 to 22 inches at the withers and weigh 35 to 50 pounds. (just don't tell her we told you). Their thick artic "double coat" will shed completely every year, usually in the spring, and requires dedication to combing to keep them looking at their best. All colors from black to pure white are allowed, including a variety of patterns and markings which make them unique. Eyes may be blue, brown, or a combination of both
